July 16 - The 2016 flower show is fast approaching make sure you get your entry forms in on time. If you haven't already seen the schedule you can download each page from the schedule section of the website including the entry form.
We are lucky, weather permitting to have a fly past of one of the last remaining Lancaster bombers. This was kindly organised by Mr Strawson, Class 3 Frenchay School.
Chairman’s Welcome - As the incoming Chairman of the Flower Show, I must first offer our most sincere thanks to Martin and Julie Sheppard. They have been Chairman and Show Secretary since the Village decided to take over the running of the Flower Show alongside the Frenchay and Hambrook Horticultural Society. Martin and Julie have both worked tirelessly for the Flower Show and we owe them a huge debt of gratitude. So, on behalf of us all I would like to say a big thank you to both for the last 7 years of success for the show. We hope that we can continue to build on that success as the Flower Show moves on to 2016.
Sue Horrocks has most generously taken on the enormous responsibility of Show Secretary. Her contact number is 0117 9568852. Many thanks for that Sue. We said goodbye to our Treasurer David Lloyd and take this opportunity to thank him for all his efforts and support during his tenure. James Vero has joined us on the committee as our new treasurer. Welcome James! Sue Selwyn has stepped down as Minutes Secretary but has assured us of her continuing (invaluable) support in the run up to and on the big day. Thanks very much Sue. Alison White has joined us on the Committee and has bravely stepped into Sue’s role!
This year will be the 73 rd Flower Show! Last year the sun shone and we had a great day. We can only hope for the same this year. However, whatever the weather the Show will go on! Our luck with the sunshine in 2015 brought excellent attendance and we were able to top up our reserves and pay our expenses, therefore enabling the Frenchay CIC to support some of the charitable and non-profit making groups within our community.
The Show will continue in much the same way, with exhibits judged in accordance with RHS guidelines with flower, fruit and vegetables being the mainstay of the exhibits. To continue with the tradition of ‘The Great British Day Out’ the extras like the Marshfield Brass Band, The Morris Dancers and regular side shows will all be there as will the Vintage Car Extravaganza hosted by the Frenchay Village Museum, with a free vintage bus to get you back and forth to the main showground!
All the Very best
